I signed up for Leigh Ann's "Indie Biz" class. Have you heard of it?
I decided I needed to get serious about my business if I really want it to become something profitable. I've been aimlessly attempting to sell on Etsy, and neither of my shops have seen much success. Its pretty disheartening, but I can't expect big things when I don't know what I'm doing.
Since trial and error learning sucks, I invested the money into the class in hopes that I may be able to pick up some new skills. We've only done our first session, and already I'm thinking in different ways, about things I never gave much consideration. I LOVE that.
I'm kind of a geek and love school/office supplies. So I was pretty excited about making a portfolio for class. I probably should have used an actual hardcover binder, like everyone else in class, but I didn't want to buy ANOTHER binder. All the older ones I have sitting in boxes in my spare room weren't very inspiring to me either. So I decided to make my portfolio much like the art journals I've made in the past. I mean, I was attempting to sell my art journals, so why not use the same technique for my business folder?
I also heard a bit of good advice (I think from Elsie). Don't tell details of a work in progress until all your preparations are complete. Don't get people excited about something that you haven't finished, because you may not follow through. I've been guilty of this in the past, and I'm working on changing my ways. This blog is my biggest way of starting over, and I'm not going to bore you guys with my complaining or frustrations.
Anyway, I'm really excited about Indie Biz and all the possibilities it may bring to my life. Do any of you have new projects starting?
